Superstar Amitabh Bachchan becomes the first from Bollywood to
feature at Madame Tussauds, the famous waxwork museum, at Hong Kong.
On loan for the next three months from Madame
Tussauds London, Bachchan's wax image will take his place at the "World
Famous Home of the Famous" alongside Hollywood A listers such as Jackie
Chan, Johnny Depp and Angelina Jolie.
The actor who has done over 100 films in his
almost 40 years career first created history in the year 2000 when he
became the first Indian and Asian to have his wax image installed at
the London Tussauds.
"There is a growing demand for us to feature
Indian film stars. Bachchan's entry here today is part of our effort to
enhance the guest experience for our Indian visitors," Bret Pidgeon,
General Manager, Madame Tussauds, Hong Kong and Shanghai said in a
statement issued through Asianet.
Hong Kong is a popular destination for Indian
tourists who also visit Madame Tussads, which displays a collection of
over 100 international celebrities and world leaders.
"We anticipate that Bachchan's wax figure will be
incredibly popular with the Indian community both in Hong Kong and
abroad, so we'll definitely explore a more permanent tribute to the
Indian film industry here at Madame Tussuads Hong Kong in the future,"
said Pidgeon.
Amitabh's wax figure will be on display at the museum'sjohnny World Premiere section till August 9.
